Viscosity R&D

This test method is a procedure for the measurement of viscosity of liquids using a digital rotary viscometer. This method can capture data points at a multitude of temperatures, rotational speeds, and rotor diameters, and is especially effective for data determination in non-Newtonian fluids

Water and Sediment in Middle Distillate Fuels

This test method determines the amount of water and sediment in middle distillate fuels (e.g., diesel fuel, fuel oils) using centrifugation. These impurities can cause corrosion, filter plugging, and poor combustion performance.

Unsaponifiable Matter

This test method is a standard analytical procedure used to determine the unsaponifiable matter content in fats and oils. Unsaponifiable matter includes components that do not form soaps when treated with alkali, such as sterols, hydrocarbons, alcohols, and certain vitamins.

Titer

This test method is the official Titer Test, which determines the solidification point of the fatty acids obtained from a saponified fat or oil sample. It is applicable to animal fats, vegetable oils, and marine oils and is used to characterize hardness and composition.

Total Fatty Acids

This test method is a standardized procedure developed by the American Oil Chemists’ Society for determining total fatty acids in fats and oils.

Temperature

This test method is used to determine the temperature of a substance using a certified thermometer.

Refractive Index

This test method is the official refractive index method for fats and oils, measuring how light bends through an oil to help characterize its identity, degree of unsaturation, and quality. It applies to all normal oils and liquid fats.

Relative Density

This test method is the official method for determining the mass per unit volume (“liter weight”) of oils and fats by measuring the mass of a calibrated pycnometer filled with the sample at a controlled temperature. It is used to convert between mass and volume for oils and fats and applies to samples that remain… Continue reading Relative Density

Residual Antibiotics [Oils]

This test method is a multiclass, multiresidue method for the detection and quantification of various antibiotic residues in animal feed.

Residual Hexane [Oil]

This test method is a procedure that uses headspace gas chromatography (GC) to detect and quantify residual hexane in vegetable oils that have been processed using solvent extraction.
